Welcome to The National Trust Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Volunteering,
and thank you for your interest!
The National Trust was founded by three volunteers in 1895 and volunteers have
always been at the heart of everything we do. It’s thanks to our volunteers that
we are able to operate the estate and the Trust as we know it today.
Our purpose is to look after special places for ever, for everyone, to inspire
them by sharing our beautiful buildings, glorious gardens, lovely landscape and
wonderful wildlife.
Our volunteers bring a huge variety of skills that are so important in helping
us to carry out our purpose. Their widely differing contributions are a constant
source of pride for us on the estate, and many volunteers tell us how much they
enjoy sharing their experiences with us year after year.
Volunteer support is invaluable, and the gift of time, skill and experience is
greatly appreciated.
Volunteers are active across the estate in a wide variety of roles. In return
for their support, we offer reasonable out of pocket travel expenses (upper limit
applies) for each time a volunteer is on duty, access to an Estate Talks Programme,
the opportunity to meet new friends and other like-minded people and a chance
to play a part in the history of this amazing World Heritage Site.
Below are descriptions of a few of the volunteering opportunities at Fountains
