Fountains estate is set in the valley of the river Skell, which means there are
varying gradients across the site, however it is still suitable for visitors with
disabilities, as wheelchair and batricar access is available to the majority of
areas.
Book the use of one of our wheelchairs or electric batricars free of charge by
telephoning at least 24 hours in advance of your visit, please telephone 01765
608888.
There is also an access vehicle on the estate which can transport you from the
Visitor Centre to Westgate or Studley Gates and vice versa.
The companion of a disabled visitor is admitted free of charge.
To the Abbey
From the Visitor Centre it is a 10 minute walk to the Abbey which includes a
steep hill of 15 – 20 % gradient, unsuitable for wheelchairs and batricars.
From the West Gate it is a flat level 5 minute stroll to the Abbey. Priority
disabled parking bays are designated in the Westgate car park.
To Studley Royal Water Garden
From Studley Royal car park there is a short, gentle slope to the Studley gates
entrance.
From the West Gate it is possible to walk on a gently undulating tarmacced path,
past the Abbey and on towards the Water Garden, taking approximately 20 minutes.
Sensory Access
Abbey Audio tours for adults and children are available for hire for £2.00 from
any admission point, or you can
download them from the website for FREE! Ask at admission points for a large print or braille guide.
We have a large tactile frieze depicting buildings on the estate in the Visitor
Centre foyer.
